MediCupping and Recovery
Cupping is one of the most interesting things that has come up for me in terms of my perception of what it is and how important it is and what little the general public knows about this therapy and how therapeutic it can be. In the upper Midwest it seems that very few know what cupping is or that it is very useful. The only time I seem to get anyone ask questions about it and what it does is win the Olympics are all around every four years and they can see the marks on some of the best athletes in the world wondering a little bit more about how it works. For the purposes of today I thought it would be important to focusing on one particular type of cupping that I do that I think again gets largely overlooked. MediCupping is a unique kind of cupping in that an electronic air pump device is used with other tools to work large areas of the body at once unlike other forms of cupping which might be isolated to select areas. So a premier example would be working the entire back with a cup about the size little bit bigger than a grapefruit and working it into the entire back. You could also use it over whole joints, legs, arms or shoulders. This method allows us to work on more systemic type problems and larger compensations that are fairly common for certain types of conditions or injuries resulting in soreness or discomfort. One of the wonderful features of medicupping is the ability to adjust the suction pressure so that we can concentrate on different layers of body tissue similar to how someone who applies different techniques in massage can reach different layers of tissue while ignoring others. Facial tissue or some cold connective tissue has been in the news quite a bit recently because the public perception of the importance this interconnective lattice of spongy stretchy tissue that's around most of the internal organs muscles and other tissues in the body. This form of cupping therapy helps interact with that system in a larger or measured way in order to maximize results with a minimum of effort on the part of the therapist and the client.
A number of conditions outside of the connective tissue and muscle realms inside the money can be treated with cupping therapy including detoxification. Unfortunately there are a number of people outside the medical profession and some insight in the medical profession would like to talk about the importance of detoxing the body or that they have the perfect method to do so in reality they were very few methods of detoxing the body that actually have any kind of a real impact. A great example of this is the foot soak there are a number of products on the market that claim to take a detox your entire body through your feet. In reality when lab tests are done on these products you find that the amount of any measurable toxins in the human body are exactly the same as before the treatment is administered. Cupping has been shown scientifically through a number of studies to actually help remove toxins that are under the skin or inside the long walls. Cupping can also be used to deal with lymphedema issues when directed by a doctor. I have in the past and several locations offered people the opportunity to jumpstart their quitting smoking goal by using the medicupping system to help break up tar and other toxins from around the long walls using machine a measurable change occurs within a few minutes of treatment this helps the body break up the toxins inside the lungs in order to help flush them out. It has even been claimed that you can reduce the healing time of someone who is step smoking to clear their lungs of these toxins buy up to six times with just one treatment.
Some of you might be asking right now how can I benefit from this treatment if I've never had it before and I otherwise feel perfectly healthy? To put it in simplest terms I think someone can benefit from it even when they're not in pain or wanting to detox because it can help mimic the movements and benefits of stretching for many parts of the body which most of us just don't do enough of. Many of us don’t go yoga centers, personal trainers, chiropractors, running clubs we just work and go home with physical activity as we need to do it. This is just another tool in the toolbox we can use it's not any alternative that is as good as ours but it is something better than nothing for a lot of healthy people and for some it helps relieve chronic pain in areas that they've never really been concerned about before or just that they were getting older.
If you're compelled to contact me regarding coming or doing your own research please remember that there are not that many therapists in the upper Midwest to do it but there are a number of different methods so don't be scared off if things don't look exactly the same as what you have seen before there are many variations and all of them have very different benefits.
