Red and Inferred Light Therapy
Some of my regular clients have already seen my webpages discussing red and infrared light therapy but I want to take the time to put it in a longer format and give people the opportunity to find out the backstory behind this interesting tool. Light therapy has been used throughout time but modern science has really taken notice in the last 40 years with the majority of the most recent advancements happening in the last 20 years. Many of the advances have come because we have been able to create new light emitting technologies this includes laser technology as well as LED technologies.
We now know through endless experimentation and studies in the fields of medical industrial technology and commercial technologies that certain colors of light along with variations of visible and non-visible light can have an impact on living things as well as inanimate objects. For the purposes of this discussion today we're going to confine it to the medical field. Approximately two years ago from the time this is released I started studying the idea of bringing in red and infrared light therapy to meet a need that some of my clients had bad for many of them was financially out of reach before. Blue spectrums of light for example have been shown to help kill viruses and bacteria around living tissue that has open sores. Red light has been known to help speed up the healing process around the skin and sub dermal layers this is most often used in the beauty industry including aestheticians. Infrared light has been known to help soften dense muscle tissue and ligaments without the need for direct hit or ice to help reduce inflammation this is one of the reasons why the cost of this type of technology has dropped significantly because it's being used by professional athletes and organizations to help people recover from injuries faster and reduce the need for hot and cold therapy which can be costly or simply cumbersome in certain circumstances.
So I spent a year investigating and researching the best possible way to integrate this into my body work and that meant going to see light therapy being used in a variety of settings for various treatments. The second step in the process was to narrow down the type of equipment I need to use for the majority of applications this process actually took the longest because the way so many parts are manufactured in one part of the world and placed into a variety of other devices manufactured elsewhere this included consultation with people in a variety of fields including beauty and sports medicine.
I also took the time well testing these products to better understand some of the drawbacks it occurred during the treatment process and to confirm that information with currently known research on the subject. How do I integrate this technology into my current practice? Part of the process of massaging people is to see that there are sometimes minor injuries or tightness is that occur due to past injuries or compensation patterns tomorrow efficiently work with those issues we must heal the areas before we can really treat them and that's where this light therapy truly comes in handy. They were also at home products that I've investigated an offer as retail products on a limited basis depending upon the need this allows people the opportunity to continue to work at home safely and effectively on the areas which we discuss.
To best illustrate what it is I'm discussing in real terms I want to bring a scenario into your head: a client comes in complaining of mid back pain stemming from yardwork that happened several days ago. Upon palpation I might discover that some of the muscles have become isotonic. The client states that they needed to use ibuprofen and small amounts for the last several days in order to keep the pain at bay. Are use of the red light therapy in this case can be done at any point during the session. By providing an intense treatment we can start repair the damage cells around the muscles joints and nerves affected by the hard work this could easily reduce healing time by several days if not more will providing comfort to the client during the regular massage portion of the session. The light would be placed over the body for a few minutes but it would provide enough exposure to really jumpstart that healing process. This might also reduce or eliminate the clients need to heat or ice area again. The end goal is to see the client wants for this particular problem perhaps a follow up might be part of their next regularly scheduled session.
